Regarded as one of the best surfing spots in Wales, Freshwater West is a wonderful west-facing beach with sand, stones, a reef and huge dunes. We always recommend “Fresh” (that’s what the surfers call it) as one of the best beaches in Pembrokeshire for walking.
Freshwater West is backed by sand dunes and smooth stones. When the tide is out, a flat sandy beach is revealed which is great for family days out, especially sandcastle building and stone stacking! There are also rock pools on the reef and amongst the rocks at the other end of the beach.
Occasionally, when we’ve had stormy seas and sand has been dragged away from the beach, a sunken forest and a shipwreck are uncovered!
Surfing at Freshwater West is only recommended for experienced surfers because of a strong rip current – you should also be aware of this when swimming.
During the summer you’ll find the award-winning Café Môr snack van in the car park.
