Of the four beaches Tenby has to offer, Castle Beach is definitely the best option for sunbathing. Accessed via a slipway from the harbour, this golden sandy beach is split in two by St. Catherine’s Island (which featured in the BBC series Sherlock) and overlooked by Castle Hill.
During the summer, this beach can become very busy. There are toilets and a café on the slipway and lifeguards are on duty during the peak season.
Trips to Caldey Island depart from here so the sea on the east side of the beach should really be avoided when the boats are operating. There can also be a strong rip current around St. Catherine’s Island, so for safety you should only really swim between the lifeguard flags.
